SPAM (Unsolicted Commercial Email) is a growing problem. While we block tens of thousands of UCE daily, many still slip through the cracks. CSD has an aggressive anti-spam policy, we do not tolerate our users sending out spam, and we will do all we can to block it.

If you have a problem with spoofed emails consult these references:

Our free spam blocking tool, SpamAssassin, is now running on CSD's entire mail system.

On a typical day , SpamAssassin blocks over 40,000 spam messages and 800 viruses, and flags over 45,000 possible spam messages and over 50 possible viruses.

This in addition to blocking over 90,000 attempts from cable modem, dialups and other spam originating mail servers to connect to our mail server, each of which could mean 1 to 10,000 spams.

SpamAssassin traps emails that are obviously spam and can either delete them or modify the subject line (inserting ***SPAM*** in the subject line). We recommend the subject line modification ("flagging mode") for most users - while SpamAssassin is 99% accurate you may find that a small few valid emails are inadvertantly tagged as a spam message.

How does it work?
Spamassassin works by applying specific rules and looking for recognized patterns in your emails. Each "find" adds points to the trap. If the accumulated points add up to the defined threshold (currently set at 5) the email is flagged as a spam.

You may in turn choose either to delete the flagged emails (most email software allows you to set up filters to automatically file or delete based on the sender or subject line) or automatically file it in a SPAM folder for periodic review.

SpamAssassin integration in Mozilla Thunderbird New!

Mozilla's Thunderbird email client has been praised almost since it's first release for it's impressive Bayesian spam filtering, but now it's spam prevention capabilities are more impressive than ever when paired with SpamAssassin. Both systems have "training" algorithms that allow them to learn what is or isn't spam. To learn more about Mozilla Thunderbird, you can go to the open source project's home page

Whitelists (your "BYPASS" file)
You can have email addresses and domains added to your personal BYPASS file. SpamAssassin ignores any email coming from these addresses or domains and does not run any spam tests on it. If there are any domains or addresses you would like added to your whitelist, please email them to support@csd.net.

If you are experiencing any false positives marked by SpamAssassin, please make note of the addresses so they can be added to your whitelist.
